Riki Lightness Clock - Lemnos
Awarded the Good Design Award, The Riki Clock showcases harmony between the twelve large serifed figures and thick rectangular clock hands. Framed in a body of bent plywood manufactured by skilled craftsmen expressed the precise circular shape and beautiful finish.
Founded in 1947 Lemnos Inc. began as a brass casting manufacturer in Toyama Prefecture in Japan. In 1966 the began supplying Seiko Clock Co with key parts and eventually in 1980 began working with well-known and established designers producing fine clocks.
Collaborating with famous designers Lemnos produces high-quality items by working with craftsmen who enhance the value of the material through their interaction with it. The result is a design object that does not become obsolete through the passage of time.
Lemnos designs have been received high acclaim and design awards all over the world.
About the Designer: Riki Watanabe (1911-2013) established Japan's first design office in 1949 with a focus on Craft, Architecture and Japanese industrial design. Although he designed interiors and furniture it was clocks and watches that quickly became his lifework. Riki received many notable awards and in 2006 the National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo held an exhibition in his honour 'Innovating in Modern Life'.
