Last week I unexpectedly found myself on a plane travelling from one Canadian coast toward another in Newfoundland. It wasn't a long trip, but it was nice to visit with family and take in views so immense you can't help but feel like a tiny cog in the great machinery of life.
Much of my visit was spent in small outport fishing communities, places I spent many summers growing up. These places, once vibrant towns filled with people, have sadly dwindled with the collapse of the cod stock. There are still hints of the old way of life, but nowhere near what it used to be like.
If you haven't been to Newfoundland I would strongly encourage you to make a trip out there. Visually and culturally the province is completely unique. Below are a few photos that I shot during the trip that might encourage you to plan a trip out east.
